Job overview

The acute Speech and Language Therapy service for Adult, Children and Neuro-Rehabilitation at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) has an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our team as a Band 6, or on a Band 5 to 6 progression post (subject to Annexe 21 guidance) dependent on prior experience.  The progression posts will be upto 12  months, working through a competency framework. Training, support, and supervision would be provided.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our  band 6 internal rotation, rotating through our adult acute teams (Neuro/Critical Care, Specialist Medicine, and Stroke teams),   the acute paediatric team and outpatient Neuro Reablement team.  We have one full-time permanent post on offer, allowing the post-holder to develop knowledge/skills working with a wide range of patients across different specialties including regional services.  There will also be the opportunity to start to develop more advanced dysphagia management skills.

We are a supportive team with a high level of clinical expertise. There are strong links with the wider MDT. There will be opportunities to develop leadership skills through projects and delivering training.  in some parts of the rotation there is a requirement to work on the weekend or bank holidays as part of a rota. 

Main duties of the job

To work towards the independent management, triage and prioritisation of own caseload  as part of a team, providing specialist SLT assessment and intervention based on evidence based practice for people with communication and/or swallowing difficulties, supporting their families, carers and other professionals.

There will be opportunities to develop and delivery training and supervise and support assistant Speech & Language Therapists.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification
  • Health Professions Council – License to Practice
  • Registered member of RCSLT
  • Evidence of successful completion of short courses related to client group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post qualification experience in at least one relevant clinical area, working with adults or children with dysphagia and communication difficulties
  • Well established knowledge of assessment tools for specialist group
  • Established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrates effective ability to prioritise a large caseload
  • Evidence of post-graduate dysphagia training
  • Evidence of completing RCSLT newly qualified competencies
  • Experience of goal setting
