Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will deliver expert clinical and surgical care to adults with spinal pathology, managing both acute emergencies and long-term conditions such as degenerative spinal disease and deformity. They will lead inpatient and outpatient services, participate in the on-call rota, and provide specialist advice to our patients and partners across Nottinghamshire as well as our allied hospitals across the East Midlands . The role also involves teaching and supervising junior staff, contributing to clinical governance, audit, and research, and working closely within a multidisciplinary team to drive service development. We are looking for a consultant with advanced (Fellowship-trained) clinical skills in the management of trauma, spinal oncology, as well as a strong foundation in the management of degenerative conditions and spinal deformity. Training in minimally-invasive, navigated as well as intradural neurosurgical techniques is essential to support the neuro-spinal division of the service. Good communication, leadership abilities, and a collaborative approach are essential. The ideal candidate will be committed to high standards of patient care, continuous professional development, and innovation in service delivery, with experience in teaching, audit, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
