You will be joining a pro-active, dynamic team of Nurses, ODPs, TAPs, TSWs and SFAs who offer the best standards of perioperative care for our HPB and Vascular patients. The successful applicant will require to work 37.5hr flexibly across the HPB and Vascular Specialities. We work cross-campus for our dynamic and revolutionary Robotic Surgery Service.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Operating Theatre Department to recruit a Theatre Support Worker to join our fantastic HPB and Vascular Team based at the QMC and NCH Campus. You should be a highly motivated, innovative and progressive individual committed to the development of yourself, your team and our changing services.
Our expectations are to deliver a high standard of service with patient safety and quality as our main priority. You should be able to demonstrate effective team working and work to the highest standards of evidence based practice.
You should have a flexible attitude to work and be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Working for our organisation
The HPB/Vascular Theatres are primarily based in QMC Main Theatres but we also work cross-campus intermittently for the dynamic HPB Robotic Surgery Service as the NCH New Robin Hood Theatre Complex.
Our team is small and friendly and we pride ourselves on the personalised care we can offer to our patients.
Currently the operating hours of the HPB/Vascular service are Monday – Friday 7:30am to 18:00pm.
This is a permanent full-time position and the successful candidate will be required to work flexibly Mon-Fri: 07:30-18:00.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role of the Theatre Support Worker involves pro-active, collaborative working with our multidisciplinary HPB and Vascular Team.
You will be expected to undertake clinical, patient facing duties across the perioperative setting. This will include assisting our surgical and anaesthetic team in theatre; setting up for operations, stocking up equipment, acting as a patient advocate and acting in the patient's best interests, maintaining legible and comprehensive documentation across all mediums (paper and electronic) and participating in clinical duties - such as manual handling and specialised skilled device training. All training will be provided by NUH.

Essential criteria
- Demonstrates an ability to prioritise work and demonstrates effective time management skills
- Physically able to perform the full range of CSW duties including venepuncture, cannulation, observations and ECG
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Recognition of own level of competence and limitations and able to communicate these to appropriate staff
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous healthcare experience including theatres
Desirable criteria
- Competent in venepuncture and ECG
Analytical
Essential criteria
- Remains calm and co-operative under pressure or in difficult and uncertain situations
Desirable criteria
- Ability to identify own learning needs
