Therapy assistant practitioner - thoracic surgery

Band 4

Job overview

Are you an enthusiastic and self-motivated therapy assistant practitioner?

We have the opportunity for a dynamic and innovative individual to join our Surgery and Cardiology Therapy team. This is a permanent band 4 post, 30 hours per week, based at City Hospital.

We are looking for someone with a special interest in supporting our service to patients within the lung cancer pathway. The post holder will be required to work with patients undergoing thoracic surgery, delivering Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy based interventions. However, this role is part of a developing service and therefore we expect this role to develop with the service. This may include working with patients undergoing non-surgical treatments such as chemotherapy and targeted treatments in the future.

The successful candidate will have an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a health-related subject plus significant experience working as a Band 3 or Band 4 Therapy Support Worker. Please refer to the person specification document for full details.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work collaboratively with both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to determine patients’ goals and provide rehabilitation. This may include the use of exercise, cognitive assessments, functional activities, breathlessness management, pacing and relaxation techniques. The post holder will hold their own caseload.

Good communication skills are essential to allow the post holder to engage with patients and work effectively as part of the team and independently. The individual will be organised, flexible, adaptable and show initiative. They will be expected to work within the parameters of their role, seeking support and advice when required from registered therapists. Clear and concise documentation of all interventions is essential.

The post holder will be expected to use IT to support their clinical role including recording patient contacts, data collection and accessing on-line training.

The post holder will also be expected to work flexibly across the wider team as required and support weekend services.

Please see the attached job description and person specification for further details
