Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a post-FY2 level resident doctor to work within the Orthogeriatric department at the Queen's Medical Centre campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust from August 2026 for 12months. 

You will be expected to keep up to date with current knowledge and practice, to attend clinical meetings within the department and to participate in audit and in service training of other professionals. The post holder’s primary working hours are Monday-Friday 8a.m. – 5p.m. There is no out of hours work included in this post.  

Main duties of the job

You can expect:
•    To build upon undergraduate experience and FY2 experience (or equivalent)
•    To develop further expertise in the identification and management of the sick patient
•    To gain experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of medical conditions, working within a large multidisciplinary team
•    To further develop skills of history taking, physical examination, appropriate investigation and rational prescribing
•    To master a number of basic medical techniques
•    To hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues
•    To develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities. 
•    To develop basic outpatient clinic skills

Person specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC Registration with license to practice
  • If the medical degree was obtained outside of the UK- IELTS core minimum 7.5 with no individual area going under 7.5 or minimum Grade B in all four sub tests of the Occupational English Test.
Desirable criteria
  • Full ALS Certification
  • MRCP Part 1
  • MRCP Part 2

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good and wide ranging experience of management of surgical/medical patients in an acute inpatient setting.
  • Evidence of full completion of key competencies for a CT/FY3 role. Where applicable- must hold a signed CREST form from a UK Institute
  • At least TWO full years’ post graduate clinical experience equivalent to foundation training
  • Potential to develop excellent diagnostic skills.
  • Able to perform basic technical skills including urinary catheterisation, NG tube insertion, ABG sampling, ECG.
Desirable criteria
  • UK experience of 12months or more at minimum SHO level
  • Experience in a large acute hospital
  • Experience of working OOH rota's
  • Experience of teaching medical students/junior doctors

Communication and Relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Basic skills in presentations for professional and non-professional groups.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate with professionals, patients and relatives.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate understanding of importance of Audit and Research.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of participating in clinical audit/quality improvement activity
