Urogynaecology Specialist Nurse/Practitioner

Job overview
We are looking for an experienced nurse to join our highly specialised urogynaecology team. If you want to step outside of your current role and work as part of a nurse/practitioner led service, if you possess a keen interest in Gynaecology/urology/continence and women's health this may be the ideal post for you.
Working for Family Health care group, the post holder will continue to develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist Urogynaecology service, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. They will act as a lead specialist and demonstrate a high level of expertise within the service; providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients. The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research and standards of care within the service.
Applicants must be experienced registered nurses and have practiced at a minimum band 6 or above.
Main duties of the job
Delivering excellent holistic care to women suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms and pelvic organ prolapse.
Running nurse-led pessary change clinics. Performing vaginal examinations, assessing the use of vaginal pessary. Gaining an expert opinion from Urogynaecology doctors when appropriate.
Running nurse-led bladder pressure studies. This involves in-depth urodynamic testing of the bladder in women suffering from bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms.
Attending and participating in the Urogynaecology MDT meeting held once weekly.
Answering telephone queries from Urogynaecology pessary change patients.
Being a point of contact for patients experiencing urogynaecology concerns
Collaborative working with the MESH service team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Based at Queens Medical Centre Campus situated within the Treatment Centre Building, working for Family Health.
The post holder will work alongside an experienced Urogynaecology Specialist Practitioner and health care support worker to deliver urodynamic services and vaginal pessary changes to a patient case load.
Informal visits to the team are highly recommended.
This post is offered on a part-time basis covering clinical activity currently delivered on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with an 08:00am start.
This may be the right time for you to make a change and come and join this specialist team. This is an accredited service which has potential for expansion and growth moving forwards. If you have the right skills and motivation we will provide support to complete any educational requirements e.g. working in new ways packages, revalidation and specialist courses. Not only will you be supported by the experienced team you will also work alongside medical colleagues as part of this multi-disciplinary service delivery.

Urodynamics Clinic
Perform urodynamics in a nurse/practitioner led clinic, providing written and verbal reports to medical staff, advising about treatment options where necessary.
Maintain computer records of tests.
Work with a consultant colleague to provide a specialist urogynaecology assessment service.
Explain findings to patients and advise about continence care to patients.
Provide written and verbal advice about continence care to patients.
Provide advice on continence management to colleagues, both medical and nursing.
See outpatient and ward based patients to provide specialist continence advice.
Work with colleagues from primary and secondary care to ensure that an integrated continence service is established locally.
Participate in research and audit.
Pessary Change Clinic
Work alongside an experienced urogynaecology Specialist Practitioner in the nurse led pessary change clinics, delivering care to women with pelvic organ prolapse.
Perform vaginal examination to assess for any complications due to the pessary.
Assess the safety and effectiveness of the pessary in each individual case.
Seeking expert advice from urogynaecology Consultants where appropriate.
Answer and action telephone calls from pessary patients who are experiencing problems.
Participate in research and audit
MESH service
Collaborative work with MESH service team to ensure cross cover.
Support patients with completion of MESH history proforma

Experience
Essential criteria
- Gynaecology / urology experience
- Experience of autonomous working
- Experience of fitting vaginal pessaries
Desirable criteria
- Audit / research experience
- Teaching experience/qualification
- Evidence of influencing and negotiation skills
- Experience of working within the MDT
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or HCPC Registration
- Degree in Health related subject or on a degree pathway
Desirable criteria
- Completion of Bristol Advanced Urodynamics course
- Completion of accredited catheterisation course
