Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join a Community Mental Health Team has arisen. The successful applicant will work as part of a busy Local Mental Health Team serving the population east of the city and based on Porchester Road. Working alongside an established multidisciplinary team with another Band 6 Occupational Therapists and OT Assistants you will be working to assess and enable individuals occupational functioning for those who are experiencing complex mental health issues to help them live their best life. 

Main duties of the job

To effectively plan and implement a high-quality Occupational Therapy service with patients referred to the Local Mental Health Team. The post holder will ensure each patient is assessed in relation to their occupational functioning and will work with the individual to identify goals in relation to maximise independence in their daily living and occupational performance. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team to use their clinical expertise to participate in the preparation, implementation, and review of plans to aid recovery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role requires the individual to assess service users needs, identify effective OT plans and implement them. In order to do this the post holder will need an understanding of the complex needs and treatment approaches relevant to this patient group. You will need to communicate effectively with a wide range of multidisciplinary colleagues and agencies.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. 

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registered
  • BSc or MSc Occupational Therapy
Desirable criteria
  • Member of RCOT

Contractual

Essential criteria
  • A full, current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle fit and insured for business use are required for this post. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled staff in line with the Equality Act 2010

Training

Essential criteria
  • Clinical educator
  • Leadership experience or training
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate training specific to client group

Expereince

Essential criteria
  • Working experience of assessing and holding a caseload of patients with complex M/H needs
  • Knowledge of Risk Ax
  • Experience of the clinical & professional development of others including students
Desirable criteria
  • Identifies clinical risks and carries out MDT/ Trust Risk assessments and formulation for individuals, groups or services highlighting needs
