  • Lead clinical care for Redwood 2, managing 16 beds (with rare flexibility up to 20)
  • Provide senior medical leadership & supervision to junior doctors and trainees
  • Engage in service development, business planning, and academic programmes
  • Maintain compliance with GMC registration, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and professional codes

Main duties of the job

πŸ“Œ Main Responsibilities

  • βœ… Manage, appraise, and provide clinical supervision to junior medical staff
  • βœ… Ensure compliance with New Deal and Working Time Directive for junior doctors
  • βœ… Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care
  • βœ… Accurately record and submit clinical activity data
  • βœ… Participate in service and business planning for the locality and wider mental health service
  • βœ… Engage in annual consultant appraisal and job plan review
  • βœ… Attend and contribute to the Trust’s academic programme and CPD activities
  • βœ… Maintain GMC registration, Section 12(2) approval, and professional standards
  • βœ… Collaborate with managers and colleagues to ensure efficient service delivery
  • βœ… Support financial planning and management within the service
  • βœ… Deliver high-quality, evidence-based senior medical care in acute and locked rehabilitation settings
  • βœ… Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide person-centred care
  • βœ… Foster therapeutic relationships with patients and carers

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
