We have an exciting opportunity for the role of Pharmacy Operational Manager, Procurement & Distribution.

The role leads on the Pharmacy Procurement & Distribution services across the Trust. Serving as a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, the Operational Manager plays a key role in these services providing leadership and supervision, along with developing a strong culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.

The role requires significant experience of working within the  NHS, with demonstrable and practical working knowledge of relevant procurement legislation and regulations.

Main duties of the job

•    Manage the technical pharmacy services within Pharmacy Procurement and Distribution.
•    Responsible for the procurement of all pharmaceuticals where they are provided by the Trust pharmacy service, together with their effective storage and management of stock holdings.
•    Responsible for the provision of pharmacy distribution services where the Trust pharmacy service provides the pharmaceuticals.
•    Ensure efficiencies in pharmacy procurement of pharmaceuticals are identified and delivered.
•    To be responsible for the provision of professional leadership and advice on all matters of pharmacy procurement, stores and distribution and their development.
•    Provide leadership and management for the development of an efficient, quality driven progressive service.
•    Maintain and develop the service, operational policies and procedures. 
•    Responsible for all staff working within Pharmacy Procurement and Distribution.

This is a key senior role within the Trust and for the Pharmacy Service to ensure both safe and financially efficient procurement of medicines and their supply to both the dispensary, based in the same location, and to a wide range of in patient and out patient settings across a wide geographical area.

Education & Training

Essential criteria
  • ▪ Pharmacy Technician NVQ level 3, BTEC or equivalent
  • ▪ Registered Pharmacy Technician (General Pharmaceutical Council)
Desirable criteria
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPs) Qualification Level 5

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • ▪ Qualifications or local training certificates to demonstrate ability to manage staff
  • ▪ Accredited checking technician (ACT)
Desirable criteria
  • ▪ Management or leadership training qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • ▪ Experience in an operational management position in a hospital pharmacy setting
  • ▪ Significant experience of managing staff.
  • ▪ Previous experience of stock control management
  • ▪ Experience of MHRA Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and its application
  • ▪ Experience in the production (writing and review) of SOP’s and monitoring compliance
  • ▪ Experience of procurement in a hospital pharmacy setting
Desirable criteria
  • ▪ Experience of quality improvement and/or service development work
  • ▪ Working knowledge of the Trust’s current pharmacy electronic stock control system
