Job overview

The Trust Programme Management Office (TPMO) has a vital role in the delivery of NUH’s ambition to be outstanding in health outcomes and patient and staff experience and has a remit covering all programmes across the Trust.

The role will form part of the Admin & Clerical Transformation Team, to support the delivery of the A&C Transformation programme across the Trust as part of NUH’s Care Optimisation and Financial Sustainability Plan. The successful applicant will work closely with Care Groups and Corporate Teams to execute programme objectives.            

As part of the Programme Management Office, this role will be responsible for ensurining that projects deliver the expected benefits in order to meet the Trust’s strategic objectives and sustainability requirements. This will be through taking ownership of the project delivery plans and working collaboratively with teams to execute the plan and ensure the benefits are embedded into business as usual.

 A Project Manager may be assigned several projects across a wide-range of different clinical and non-clinical areas and cover a variety of deliverables, including transformation, operational performance, financial performance, service issues and clinical quality improvement. 

As a Project Manager, the post holder will be responsible for facilitating progress and providing practical support to the teams impacted by their projects so that they are able to take forward the improvements, transformations and new ways of working.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Leadership / Strategic

To provide leadership to specific projects across the Trust in partnership with key senior stakeholders from Corporate, Care Group and Specialty teams, and supporting roles

Actively support the delivery of ambitious targets to continually improve performance within the Trust

As part of the Programme Management Office, work with all staff in the Divisions to deliver what is expected to achieve the Trust’s Strategic goals.

Project and Programme Delivery

To take responsibility for the overall delivery of specific projects across the Trust in partnership with subject matter experts from Care Group and Specialty teams, including delivery of the agreed outputs, outcomes and benefits

Work with Divisional and Specialty colleagues, and other project professionals to deliver projects that lead to improved clinical outcomes for patients, reduced waiting times and more efficient use of resources

Ensure progressive solutions, which take into account models of best practice and best use of resources are incorporated into project plans

Support project and programme Sponsors to ensure implemented programmes result in embedded change

Performance Management

Write and regularly update project plans according to an agreed framework and structure

Assess and evaluate project progress against agreed timescales and objectives and provide solutions to address any deviations

Provide reports as required to Sponsors and Trust Directors with assurance that appropriate follow up actions will be completed

Ensure actions are progressed and delivered by leading and performance managing projects

Develop and contribute to performance reports, including analysis of data

Quality and Governance

Continually revise and update project plans to ensure ongoing delivery

Contribute to governance groups and reporting deadlines in a timely manner

Contribute to the development and management of risk and assurance processes for all projects

Communication

Build constructive and effective relationships with colleagues at all levels 

Manage conflicts and delivery of contentious issues in an appropriate manner whilst adhering to the Trust’s values and behaviours

Management

Provide matrix leadership of project and programme staff

Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level in relevant field or significant recent equivalent work experience in project management
  • A project management qualification e.g. APM PMQ, PRINCE 2 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven track record of being involved in the delivery of project management, either in or outside the NHS
  • Proven ability to achieve targets and objectives within a demanding and pressured environment against challenging deadlines

Analytical and Judgement Skills

  • Ability to set project plans and develop contingencies when deviations from the plans occur

Planning and Organisation Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to project manage, co-ordinate and have overall responsibility for a range of projects and benefits delivery
