An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Patient Education Team at Rampton Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual with a strong background in education, who can lead and support the delivery of learning sessions to adults with a range of mental health needs.
As a key member of the team, you will plan and deliver educational sessions under the guidance and supervision of a Band 6 Lecturer. This role involves working closely with patients, staff, and other stakeholders within the hospital setting, therefore, alongside outstanding teaching and learning abilities excellent communication and interpersonal skill are essential.
We are seeking someone who:
Has experience of teaching in an educational setting (essential).
Holds a relevant teaching qualification (essential).
Has experience of working with adults with mental health difficulties (desirable).
Is n excellent communicator with a person-centred approach.
Demonstrates empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping others learn.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role include:
Planning schemes of work and facilitating educational sessions tailored to individual patient needs.
Working collaboratively with the wider MDT to support patient progress.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to session planning and evaluation.
Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other professionals.
Escort patients to and from sessions.
Adhere to all Security policies and procedures.
Uphold the highest standards of dignity, respect, and care at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role is essential for the Patients’ Education Team as you will plan and deliver group and bespoke lessons to patients. The successful candidate is also be expected to follow all local and hospital procedures around security and safety. This also includes escorting patients to and from areas. You will be responsible for creating individual learning plans with patients, that suite their learning needs and abilities. Good communication skills are essential, you will need to contribute to electronic records that are accessed by various departments and disciplines. The successful candidate will need to be physically fit enough to complete the Prevention of Violence and Management of Aggression course.

- • Ability to successfully complete Management of Violence and Aggression training. This involves learning to control violent incidents through approved physical restraints.
- • Ability to participate in the escorting of patients in accordance with policies and procedures

- Evidence of ongoing professional development related to teaching and learning
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Maths & English GCSE 4-9 or equivalent
- Level 5 Teaching Qualification (DET) or equivalent, must be recognised in UK
Desirable criteria
- PGCE, QTS, QTLS
- Subject specific qualification (Maths, English, ICT) Diploma level or higher
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching in a formal educational setting
- Experience of developing and planning schemes of work/lessons related to relevant subject/s.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in a Secure environment.
- Experience of collaborative working across disciplines in partnership with colleagues to enhance the Learner experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of Functional Skills in relation to the Lifelong Learning Sector
- Knowledge of teaching strategies to motivate learners with mental health problems and/or learning difficulties and relevant flexible approaches to teaching and learning
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act (1983)
- Familiarity with the Core Curriculum in Adult Education
