Previous experience or working within a catering environment is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Main duties of the job

To support the Catering Team by ensuring adequate stocks of food and provisions are available to enable to the Department to provide high quality food to patients, staff and visitors.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To support the Catering Department which provides high quality, safe and nutritious food for patients, staff and visitors.  Specifically undertaking Catering Responsibilities as detailed in the Job Description following task schedules, method statements and procedures.

The Catering Stores Assistant is required to maintain stock levels and order food/provisions as necessary, ensuring all stock received is to the required Health and Safety standards.

Liaising with Suppliers as necessary.

Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa. 

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. 

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience or working within a catering, cleaning or portering environment
  • Experience of working within healthcare environment which may include: a catering, cleaning or portering function.
  • Experience of working within a food safety management system (HACCP).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of cleanliness and good hygiene practices.
  • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate or to work towards within the 12 months of employment (site specific).
  • Understanding of a small number of routine work procedures developed through on the job training / experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised catering ,cleaning or support services qualification.
