Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our forensic services team at Rampton Hospital. This is an exciting Band 6-7 progressional role, providing structured support and development in clinical pharmacy and independent prescribing practice.

You will deliver high quality clinical pharmacy services, support medicines optimisation, and develop your prescribing skills, progressing from Band 6 responsibilities under supervision to full Band 7 duties once competencies are achieved.

  • Core hours: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours

Progression to Band 7 will be based on completion of agreed competencies, demonstration of independent practice, and successful assessment in line with Trust preceptorship and development processes.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for delivering expert pharmaceutical care to individuals with mental and physical health conditions, ensuring safe and effective use of medications.

This will include

  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams (MDT), providing medication reviews, offering therapeutic advice, and supporting treatment optimisation.
  • Participating in MDT meetings and ward rounds, providing pharmaceutical input and patient-specific care plans.
  • Providing training, mentorship, and assessments for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Offering specialist medicines information and counselling to patients, carers, and healthcare staff.
  • Clinically validating prescriptions, oversee dispensing activities, and ensure compliance with legal and professional standards.
  • Collaborating with the wider pharmacy team  and MDT colleagues to develop and implement clinical audits, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborating with medical and nursing teams to optimise prescribing practices and medication management.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of treatment guidelines and Trust-wide medicines optimisation strategies.
  • Acting as a role model and providing leadership support, including cover for senior pharmacy roles when necessary.
  • Providing out-of-hours pharmacy duties through participation in the pharmacy oncall service to maintain continuous pharmacy service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role will be mostly clinically focused with a small dispensary commitment and on-call/emergency duty commitment.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. 

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • MSc in Pharmacy
  • • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • • Diploma (or MSc) in a Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Topic, or currently studying the second year of this
Desirable criteria
  • Current membership of Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Current membership of College of Mental Health Pharmacy
  • Certificate or Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Clinical knowledge from aspects of career to date
  • Post-qualification and registration experience
  • Clinical Pharmacy knowledge associated with a Pharmacy degree course and vocational experience
  • Awareness of NHS changes and understanding of pharmacy issues within the NHS
  • Hospital Pharmacy Experience
