Main duties of the job

·         To work appropriately and effectively within your clinical team within the limits of your competency under clinical and educational supervision

·         In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, and commensurate with your grade, to play a full part in the supervision and support of other members of your team including more junior medical staff

·         In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department

·         In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met and to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

·         To accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure that any risks, incidents and hazards are reported and managed appropriately

·         In conjunction with colleagues, to play a full part in the rota for the department and to provide cover for colleagues in respect of periods of leave and, under agreed circumstances, to be available to provide emergency cover

·         To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary

·         Any other duties as agreed to be appropriate

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full Registration with the GMC with a licence to practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 12 months’ post qualification experience
Desirable criteria
  • Up to date ALS or ATLS Certificate
  • NHS experience

Research

Essential criteria
  • To understand the principles of audit and research
Desirable criteria
  • Participation in audit and / or research

Other

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
  • Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit
