Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) within Nottinghamshire Healthcare are at the forefront of a range of multi-disciplinary, specialist services for people with complex needs, using their expertise around promoting recovery, enablement and positive risk taking, to add life to years, prevent relapse and reduce risks. Within Nottinghamshire Healthcare we employ 10 different AHPs across 3 Care Groups of Community Health, Mental Health and Forensics, representing around 680 registered staff from a variety of professional identities, cultures and practice traditions.

The Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Care Unit are pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity to ensure that the dementia care pathway continues to deliver high quality, evidence based that is inclusive of people of all ages living with dementia.  The Consultant Occupational Therapist role will hold a clinical caseload within the Young Onset Dementia diagnostic service and provide leadership, education and training, research and audit across the dementia pathway in the MHSOP Care Group.  The role is positioned in such a way to ensure that MHSOP is profiled within the Integrated Care System and that research and evidence based interventions are shared across services.  This opportunity will be as part of a job share arrangement with the current post holder.

The Consultant Occupational Therapist  provides expert strategic clinical and professional leadership and consultancy, across multi-disciplinary pathways as well as organisational, professional and agency boundaries. They take the lead role in influencing, developing and shaping clinical policies and services, based on evidence. You will initiate, facilitate, and collaborate in research, audit, evaluation and Quality Improvement projects, analysing, interpreting and sharing evidence to underpin practice, governance and service planning within their clinical specialism. They will implement programmes of induction and education for all health care professionals based on training needs analysis and developing new ways of working

As one of the senior clinical leaders you will have influence over the models of care, you will be a highly compassionate, inclusive and forward thinking Occupational Therapist with a proven history of leading and shaping services by promoting an evidence based approach to dementia care.  An advanced knowledge and understanding of dementia care will be essential.  You will be highly visible across the Mental Health Care Group and wider organisation and engage in Trust and other professional forums to ensure that high standards of care are sustained and best practice shared.  You will act as a role model for your profession and deliver the 4 key pillars of practice.

This role is 0.4wte worked as a job share with the current post holder.

Role Purpose:

The Consultant Occupational Therapist works collaboratively with patients and their families, across the system and region, to achieve better outcomes for patients. They hold Divisional and/or Trust- wide responsibility to promote clinical excellence and patient safety through managing complex clinical caseloads, working with individual practitioners and their patients, families and carers and providing advice, supervision and support for internal and external stakeholders.

The Consultant Occupational Therapist provides expert strategic clinical and professional leadership and consultancy, across multi-disciplinary pathways as well as organisational, professional and agency boundaries. They take the lead role in influencing, developing and shaping clinical policies and services, based on evidence. The Consultant Occupational Therapist will initiate, facilitate, and collaborate in research, audit, evaluation and Quality Improvement projects, analysing, interpreting and sharing evidence to underpin practice, governance and service planning within their clinical specialism. They will implement programmes of induction and education for all health care professionals based on training needs analysis and developing new ways of working

The Consultant Occupational Therapist has recognised extensive clinical expertise and strategic awareness, within their specialism. They deliver advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking and clinical management skills.

Role Context:

The Consultant Occupational Therapist is a clinical expert in dementia assessment, contributing to the diagnostic pathway for the Young Onset Dementia Service and delivering senior clinical leadership and consultation on dementia assessment and intervention. The Consultant Occupational Therapist will hold a clinical caseload in the Young Onset Dementia Diagnostic Service but will have a broader leadership role for services for people living with dementia who are in contact with services.

 

The dementia pathway in the Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Directorate delivers expert assessment and intervention for individuals who are referred for memory assessment and diagnosis as well as people living with dementia in their own homes or in residential care settings.

The role will act as a point of clinical expertise that will drive and inform services by leading and delivering an evidenced based approach to dementia care best practice.

The role is line managed by the MHSOP Directorate General Manager and will be based at the Millbrook Mental Health Unit in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

 

The role will be carefully job planned with the post holder to ensure the 4 pillars of key practice are effectively delivered and managed. The Consultant Occupational Therapist will play a pivotal role in raising the profile of the dementia care specialism across the organisation and within the wider Integrated Care System.

The postholder will undertake 2nd On-call (Silver on-call) responsibilities on a rota basis.

The postholder will be expected to hold an advanced/masters level formal qualification or evidence significant *equivalent experience that is related to the 4 pillars of professional practice.

*Examples of acceptable equivalent experience include active membership of Regional professional groups, presentations delivered to Regional/National organisations/conferences, publications in relevant press/journals, involvement in development of policy/procedure and/or strategy development. Design and delivery of education/training programmes relevant to the area of practice.
