Job overview

The over-riding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

The post-holder will work closely with the dermatology team in order to deliver dermatology services including skin cancer and skin cancer surgery both at Kings-mill and Newark hospital.  

 

There is a substantive consultant who works in the dermatology department at King's Mill Hospital and Newark hospital. In addition, the department has a fixed term consultant, a long-term locum, an Associate Specialist, one specialty grade doctor and a team of dedicated dermatology nurses. We have paediatric dermatology provided weekly by a consultant from Derby.   Plastic Surgeons from Nottingham City Hospital have outpatient clinics in King’s Mill and Newark and also skin surgery sessions within the dermatology department to provide more advanced skin surgery for patients with skin cancers.

The Dermatology department is part of the King’s Mill diagnostic treatment centre, which has a dedicated outpatient area with 7 self-contained consultation rooms and two-day case theatres. Office accommodation and secretarial support are located at the same area. There is a supervised phototherapy area with two TLO1-UVB units and a systemic and local PUVA unit.   We are able to offer iontophoresis for hand and feet and intradermal Botox for axillary hyperhidrosis.

Main duties of the job

The over-riding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

1.      Provision of a service to Sherwood Forest Hospitals, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department

2.      The post holder is expected to contribute towards the teaching and training of medical students

3.      Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences

4.      Responsibilities for carrying out teaching duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity

5.      Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD – CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory

6.      The post holder must at all times carry out his/her duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy

7.      It is the responsibility of all employees to comply with Trust Health and Safety policies and maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff

8.      All employees have an individual responsibility to have knowledge of and employ the basic principles of infection control practice and to ensure adherence to the requirements in the Infection Control Manual

9.      In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work

10.   Staff who have access to or transfer data are responsible for that data and must respect confidentiality and comply with the requirement of the Data Protection Act 1998, in line with the Trust’s policies

11.   The post holder is responsible for data quality and complying with the policies, procedures and accountability arrangements throughout the Trust for maintaining accuracy and probity in the recording of the Trust’s activities

12.   The post holder is expected to comply with Trust policies and procedures

13.   Staff are required to comply with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in line with Trust Policy

14.   Any other duties which may be required from time to time

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • MRCP or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Progress towards or attainment of College exams

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have completed at least four years’ full time post graduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least 12 months in Dermatology; or have equivalent experience and competencies
  • Previous experience in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Experience within the specialty in the UK

Teaching

Desirable criteria
  • Experience with audit, teaching or research/critical review of literature

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
