Job overview
Sherwood Forest Hospitals are seeking committed Maternity Support Workers to join our team on a full or part time basis!
The maternity unit at King’s Mill Hospital includes the pregnancy day care unit, antenatal clinic, triage assessment unit, maternity ward (antenatal and postnatal), the Sherwood Birthing Unit and the neonatal unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in providing care to patients, under the supervision of Registered Midwives/Nurses.
- Ensure patient dignity is maintained and care is delivered with kindness and compassion.
- Maintain hygiene, orderliness, and safety of the ward.
- Support a seamless maternity service for the women of North Nottinghamshire.
- Perform direct and indirect patient care tasks as assigned.
- Carry out phlebotomy procedures in outpatient settings (following training and competency assessment).
- Provide a courteous and helpful approach to patients, relatives, and visitors.
- Keep clinical areas clean and contribute to infection control.
- Monitor and restock supplies efficiently.
- Perform clerical tasks to support service operations.
- Report incidents or concerns to the Department Leader or Registered Nurse.

Essential criteria
- Demonstrate good communication skills and understanding of basic requirements for individualised patient care
- Awareness of Health and Safety issues
- Knowledge and understanding of data protection confidentially

- Previous experience of working with members of the public
- Formal maternity care experience in a hospital/birth centre
- Experience of using hospital patient record system
- Experience of working in an acute hospital setting

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths & English Grades A-C, Levels 4-9, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 in Health care or equivalent experience
