Job overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Ward Housekeeper to join our dynamic clinical team at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a vital role that supports the delivery of high-quality patient care by ensuring the ward environment is consistently clean, safe, and welcoming.

As a Ward Housekeeper, you will be responsible for coordinating a range of facilities services including cleaning, linen management, stock control, and general ward support. You will work closely with the Ward/Department Sister and wider multidisciplinary team to uphold national and local standards of cleanliness, infection prevention, and patient safety.

Your contribution will help maintain a positive patient experience and support clinical staff in delivering care efficiently. You will be expected to take initiative, respond to changing priorities, and communicate effectively with both patients and colleagues.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys being part of a team, and is committed to maintaining high standards in a healthcare setting.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate all facilities services in the ward/department area, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and safety
  • Support the delivery of key national and local standards, such as Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment audits, mattress audits, Food and Hygiene standards, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points
Assist the Matron and Ward Leader in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward
  • Identify and rectify problems promptly, reporting issues to the Ward Leader and Housekeeping Services Department as necessary
  • Perform spot cleaning, including swift and efficient handling of spillages and regular checks of sanitary areas
  • Maintain the ward’s appearance by removing clutter, tidying notice boards, attending to storage requirements, and ensuring signage meets PEAT environmental standards
  • Ensure the upkeep and appearance of patient bed areas
  • Keep the linen trolley adequately stocked and order replacements as needed
  • Ensuring adequate stock levels maintained throughout the ward

Working for our organisation

We are an award-winning NHS Foundation Trust working alongside health and social care colleagues across the county to provide acute and community healthcare services to more than 420,000 people across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood, and parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.

We put the patient at the heart of everything that we do and it is our aim to make sure that every patient is treated as we would want a member of our own family to be treated. At the same time, we expect our staff to be caring, kind and courteous to each other and to look out for each other. We believe that we are truly a clinically-led organisation.

We are proud that our Trust colleagues have voted us the best acute Trust to work for in the East Midlands for seven years running in the National NHS Staff Survey, while the Care Quality Commission has rated our Trust as ‘outstanding’ for care and our King’s Mill Hospital as the only ‘outstanding’ NHS-run hospital in the East Midlands.
