Job overview

We are looking for a Facilities Assistant - Catering  to join our Catering Team at Wathwood Hospital, Wath upon Dearne.

Previous experience of working within a catering environment is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Position available is:

30 hours per week - 6 hour shifts working 5 days/7 (including weekends and Bank Holidays.)

We have in-house training to help your personal development plans and will support you with all of your training needs.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the day to day running of the kitchen at Wathwood Hospital providing meals for patients, staff and visitors.  To ensure high standards of customer service and catering services. The completion of all relevant paperwork in line with trust policies and procedures.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. 

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To support the Catering Department which provides high quality, safe and nutritious food for patients, staff and visitors.  Specifically undertaking catering responsibilities as detailed in the Job Description following task schedules, method statements and procedures.

Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.

Essential criteria
  • Basic Knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • Knowledge of a Catering Environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and awareness of special diets and allergens.
  • Basic understanding of infection control.
  • Understanding of the responsibility relating to H&S at work and COSHH.
  • Knowledge of manual handling.
