Job overview

Oxfordshire Community Services First Contact and Primary Care pathway supports unscheduled care across the county. The pathway is responsible for three community Minor Injury Units, one First Aid unit, and the GP Out of Hours service in Oxfordshire.

We are seeking a Modern Matron to provide visible senior clinical leadership across our six bases, ensuring both clinical and non-clinical standards of care are maintained. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical governance and patient engagement, and will be a specialist in the management of injury and illness with proven leadership experience.

Main duties of the job

To work in partnership across the acute sector, primary & social care services & community nurses; in order to support and develop effective referral pathways, discharge practices and prevention of delayed transfers of care.

To act as a role model for clinical staff demonstrating and promoting the organisations and service’s core values, beliefs and professional behaviours including respect, non-discrimination, empowerment and inclusion.

To provide clinical leadership and direction for the units. This will include line management responsibility depending on the size, number and geographical spread of service teams.

To develop and promote innovation and service improvement, through initiatives such as the productive ward and productive community team.

To work with the heads of service in the planning and development of the service strategy.

To establish effective relationships with other service providers in the public, voluntary and private sectors to enable effective joint working with the Trust.

To promote awareness of clinical and non-clinical risk amongst all staff and to ensure the risk register is up to date.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide visible senior leadership across the Urgent Care services in the community.

To be available to clinical staff, referrers to the service, patients and carers and be responsive to their experiences and concerns about clinical standards and the unit/community environment.

To provide clinical leadership and direction for clinical staff in maintaining clinical and non-clinical standards of care and in implementing service improvements. This includes ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards are met and exceeded.

To work proactively with clinical managers/staff across Oxford Health NHS FT staff to promote a ‘high performance culture’ in relation to referral pathways and discharge practices.

To liaise with all stakeholders to ensure Urgent and Ambulatory Care services are developed to meet the needs of the local population.

To lead upon Clinical Governance and patient experience across the units.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and CQC essential standards of Care
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Leadership experience in health care at a clinical level
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of current national agendas for the NHS

Qualifications

  • Educated to Masters Level
  • Previous leadership/management experience
  • Specialist qualification in Minor Injury and Minor Illness
