A 0.8wte speciality doctor post is currently available on Ruby ward (17-bedded acute female inpatient ward). The post-holder will work alongside 1 full time Consultant on Ruby ward and the multidisciplinary inpatient team.

Ruby ward along with Sapphire ward (20-bedded acute male in-patient ward) are the acute admission wards for the psychiatric service of Working Age Adults in Buckinghamshire. In addition, from time to time, they take admissions for older patients, either because they remain open to the Adults of Working Age Service or because they present challenging behaviour more appropriately managed on these wards. Ruby ward has a fully staffed multidisciplinary team. There is Place of Safety attached to the ward.

There is also a 20-bed rehabilitation ward on-site (Opal Ward).

Active commitment to delivering the Trust’s clinical governance agenda.

Contribution to developing and delivering improved clinical services as outlined in the National Service Framework for Mental Health.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies.  This includes the timely recording of clinical activity data, and participation in clinical audit -with appropriate administrative support.

The post holder will normally cross-cover with the trainee doctors and speciality doctors on Sapphire, Ruby and Opal for annual leave, study leave and brief periods of sickness absence.

The post holder will administer ECT on a rota with the other specialty doctors and doctors in training. This will be supervised by the lead ECT consultant and appropriate training will be given (depending on prior experience). Attendance at the ECT suite will be on a supernumerary basis alongside the lead consultant until the post holder has achieved the required competencies to work without direct supervision (as set out by the RCPsych).

The post holder will also have the opportunity to receive basic training in rTMS and will then be expected to provide occasional medical cover for the rTMS service in the consultant’s absence.
