Job overview

The Cardiac Angiography Suite (CAS) at the Oxford Heart Centre is recruiting for an experienced Nurse to join their team as the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

The Cardiac Angiography Suite is made up of 5 Cath Labs, a 16 bed Day Unit and a 4 bed Assessment Area and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to lead the team.

Within the Cardiac Angiography Suite patients undergo a wide variety of cardiac procedures. These include Coronary Angiography

Within CAS patients undergo a wide variety of cardiac procedures. These include Coronary Angiography/Intervention, Pacemaker/ICD implantation, Electrophysiology Studies/Ablations, Structural/Congenital procedures and Trans-Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). We also perform nurse led Cardioversions, Transoesophageal Echoes, and Drug Challenges.

 

Main duties of the job

Ø  To promote and demonstrate contemporary and proactive approaches to acute Cardiology nursing practice and in collaboration with education links facilitate the advancement of this practice.

Ø  To lead and develop a team of nurses to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence-based care.

Ø  To take responsibility for the strategic leadership of designated projects relating to the unit.

Ø  Work with Matron to manage strategic planning for the unit, taking operational responsibility for the effective utilisation of relevant resources.

Ø  Collaborate with the multi-professional team and provide direction and example for professional nursing practice

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ø  Takes responsibility for the day to day operational management of the unit.

Ø  Ensures efficient and effective admission and discharge processes are in place to meet clinical need and fulfil Trust and national targets.

Ø  In collaboration with Matron and Senior Nurses, develops the Cardiology operational and organisational structure to optimise the service.

Ø  Actively participates in the collaborative approach to strategic planning that ensures the Cardiology service plan accounts for patient and service needs.

Ø  Leads on quality assurance in the attainment of clinical governance standards for the unit,

Ø  Manages the unit’s nursing audit programme, providing monthly data as requested by Matron.

Ø  Provides assurance of safe staffing levels whilst proactively managing the use of temporary workers.

Ø  Directs supports and facilitates project work and research and contributes to practice development.

Ø  Promotes ongoing developments and achievements of the nursing team to optimise team working and individual potential.

Ø  Facilitates feedback to individuals through performance review and clinical supervision to fulfil individual and unit needs.

Ø  Facilitates and develops communication channels within the multi-professional team

Ø  Proactively manages the Cardiac Angiography ward budget to ensure service delivery is achieved within budgetary constraints.

Ø  Is actively involved in cost saving/budgeting initiatives.

Ø  Takes responsibility for the recruitment and selection of staff and support measures that promote staff retention.

Supports collaborative working with the other areas within the Cardiothoracic directorate, Medicine, Rehabilitation and Cardiac division and wider Trust as a whole.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Undergraduate degree in Nursing
  • Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Nursing course
  • Evidence of personal development
  • Experience working at Band 6 level
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of a leadership and management development programme
  • Masters level study

Occupational

  • Evidence of operational management
  • Relevant clinical experience gained within cardiology setting.
