The ENT Department

The main ENT Department is located in the West Wing at The John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.  It provides emergency care and wide range of general and sub-specialty elective inpatient work for the Oxfordshire and surrounding regions. The on call rota and registrar training rotations are located across Oxford University Hospitals (John Radcliffe Hospital, the Churchill Hospital and The Horton Hospital) as well as Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS trust (Stoke Mandeville and High Wycombe Hospitals).

The department prides itself on being a regional tertiary referral centre for head and neck oncology, skull base surgery, paediatric ENT, specialist rhinology and otology including cochlear implants and bone anchored hearing aids.  It is the hub of the Regional SpR Training Programme. It is an extremely supportive department with ample opportunity for learning and development.

You will be expected to attend ward rounds, undertake ward work and participate in holding the registrar on-call bleep as part of on call duties.  You will have the opportunity to run clinics independently with consultant supervision and attend theatres to improve clinical and surgical skills.  There are also regular teaching sessions run by the consultants and you will be expected to attend and contribute to monthly academic sessions, MDT and clinical governance.
