Job overview

We are delighted to be able to offer a Trainee Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist 4 year fixed term position in Oxford Health Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in BSW based in our Melksham Team in Wiltshire.

 All applicants will need to have completed or near completion of an Association of Child Psychotherapy pre-clinical training and have been offered a place on an ACP full clinical training ready to begin in Sep 2024 Wiltshire.

The post is funded by NHS England to begin in September 2024 up until August 2028, you will be based in clinic for 4 days per week and you will be funded to attend your training school for 1 day a week.  Funding also covers analysis and training costs. 

Main duties of the job

The role is to undertake a range of clinical work under supervision whilst undertaking a training at an ACP registered training school.  The post holder will be expected to offer advice, consultancy and support to colleagues within the CAMHS team and wider service.

You will be joining a large group of child psychotherapists across Oxford Health who meet regularly for CPD and to discuss our work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a leading teaching, training, and research trust, we have close links to Oxford and Oxford Brookes, Buckinghamshire, Reading and Bath universities. We are part of the Oxford Academic Health Science Centre, working closely with our university colleagues to translate their findings into clinical care as quickly as possible, enabling people using our services to benefit from the latest advances in healthcare.

The funding will cover training fees, salary and a significant contribution towards personal analysis and travel.

Successful applicants will already need to be on an ACP recognised pre-clinical training course or have been accepted for the ACP recognised Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy clinical training. 

Applicants, as a minimum, will need to have completed the first year of the pre-clinical training recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapists. This assumes they will already be working with children and young people in a professional capacity and that they have an interest in and some understanding of psychoanalytical thinking. Those undertaking or having already successfully completed an ACP approved pre-clinical training, will also be eligible to apply and may be able to “step on” in Year 2 and hence complete the training in 5 years.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Undertaking an ACP recognised pre-clinical Child Psychotherapy training and already in year 1 of an ACP recognised pre-clinical training before commencing with the intent to do the full four-year clinical training once the pre-clinical training has been completed.
