Job overview
We're recruiting for a Receptionist to join our team at Marlborough House, a male medium secure 28 bedded unit situated on the Milton Keynes General Hospital site in Milton Keynes. There are two wards at this site: Watling Ward is an acute admissions ward that has 20 beds, with an Intensive Care Unit including a de-escalation lounge. Chaffron Ward accommodates up to 8 men who are progressing well in their recovery but still require medium secure services. Referrals are accepted from other adult or forensic services, prison or high secure hospitals.
You role will involve controlling access to the buildings via secure airlock, dispensing security keys, liaising with the general public and dealing with telephone enquiries.
This is a varied administrative and customer-service focused role where you'll be liaising with multidisciplinary staff at all levels. Previous experience working within a secure mental health setting would be desirable but is not essential.
If you're a calm and empathetic communicator with strong attention to detail and enjoy juggling a varied work load, this could be the perfect role for you!
This is a part time role (22.5 hours per week) and you'll be required to work shifts over 3 days which will consist of early and late shifts (06:30-14:30 & 14:00-22:00) as well as some weekends.
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for security at the airlock entrance - including signing in visitors and patients on and off the unit, ensuring contraband items are put in lockers at the entrance and maintaining general unit security.
- To provide a safe, polite and efficient reception service to visitors and staff.
- To maintain working relationships with statutory and non-statutory groups connected with the care of the mentally ill, staff of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and of other Trusts and hospitals, users and carers of the service, general public and other professionals.
- Issuing keys to staff.
- Answering the phones and transferring to the appropriate person, recording messages accurately, responding to queries appropriately, following Trust procedures and protocols.
- Sorting and distributing mail.
- Assisting the Ward Administrators/Clerks as directed.
- Filing, scanning and photocopying of documents as directed.
- Keeping the reception area clean and tidy
- To ensure the confidential nature of the work is maintained always.
- To safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
