Are you a Psychology graduate seeking a new role?

Are you keen on developing your clinical experience in mental health?

We're a friendly and supportive, well-established, and knowledgeable community multi-professional team, where you will receive quality reflective supervision seeking a part time Assistant Psychologist!

We'll need you to use your skills to support with quality assessments and interventions and influence service improvements. You will have opportunities to grow in your career and continuing professional development. You will be a vital member of the team helping the system to understand the complete identity of the young person including their intellectual disability, neurodivergence and mental health.

You will be the team champion for Routine Outcome Measures (ROM's), I Want Great Care feedback and oversee the team wating list spreadsheets. You will support the facilitation of our clinical groups with parents. You will work on behaviour interventions and psychological assessments with young people under supervision. You will be trained and supported to observe children in school and at home.

Within this team you will gain experience of working with children who have moderate to severe Learning Disabilities, Autism and ADHD, behaviours that challenge and often anxiety and low mood.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Support with holistic and evidence-based assessments and assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care.
  • Contribute to multi-professional assessment and formulation of the needs of child and young person. 
  • Work closely with families and the education and social care systems to empower them to help the child / young person to achieve their goals. 
  • Offer psychologically informed and evidence based interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the needs and difficulties of children with intellectual disabilities
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
  • Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
  • Ability to participate in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities
Desirable criteria
  • Experience using computers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Honours degree in Psychology, 2:1 or 1st class. (or 2:2 with a higher degree).
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable criteria
  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional Psychology, Mental Health practice and research design and analysis

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with individuals in emotional distress and / or behavioural challenges
  • Work with people with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with children
  • Experience of working with families
  • Previous experience in an assistant psychology post
  • Experience of neuropsychological testing

Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of working with people in an empathetic non-judgemental way
  • An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
  • An ability to interact with people with mental health problems and disabilities
  • Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively
Desirable criteria
  • An interest in working with people with mental health problems or/and learning disabilities
