Are you a doctor interested in an exciting role in Oxfordshire delivering high quality mental health care in the community, with no on call commitment?

We have one 0.6 Specialty Doctor post available in an established Community Mental Health Team serving adults of working age in the City and North East AMHT, based at Warneford Hospital. You will join two existing substantive consultants. The role is available for 6 months with the potential for another 6 month extension.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialty Doctor in the team, you will join a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality mental health care to adults in the community.  Please refer to the JD for further details.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Specialty Doctor psychiatrist will be based at Aspen Team, Warneford Hospital.  The specialty doctor is expected to work closely with other members of the team. Key components of the role include:

  • Providing Psychiatric expertise to the MDT
  • Contributing to assessments, treatment planning and reviews
  • Liaising with other services eg Primary care where appropriate.
  • Supporting quality improvement and service developments

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • General Medical Qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Some or all parts of MRCPsych or equivalent

Training

Essential criteria
  • Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time Postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at MRCPsych course or equivalent
  • Section 12 (2) approval: Mental Health Act, 1983

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Held appointments in psychiatry at SHO/CT or equivalent

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • To exercise an intermediate level of clinical responsibility as delegated by the consultant in charge.
  • Ability to work through a collaborative multi-disciplinary framework.
  • Ability to contribute to effective team working. Capacity to prioritise workload.
  • Must have good skills in communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and staff of other organisations. Good spoken and written English.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with a range of professionals.
  • Must have interest in and commitment to people with mental health problems, and their carers.
  • Interest in teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching medical undergraduates.
