Job overview

We are inviting applicants for the Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse role within school health nursing in Oxfordshire commencing  September 2026.

The role is fixed term for 12 months full time and will include both academic studies at Buckingham New University and working alongside your Practice Supervisor and Clinical Education Lead in placement with school aged children.  This includes but not limited too, providing public health related care to support in areas such as safeguarding, emotional health, sexual health and physical health, alongside supporting schools to deliver personal, health and social education, and managing medical conditions in schools.

Main duties of the job

This offer is a fulltime paid post with both academic and placement requirements, to ensure completion of this specialist qualification.

When in placement, you will work with the 0-19 team supporting locality wide work where needed for school aged children and young people. The role involves working in partnership with children, young people, families, primary care, schools and statutory and voluntary services and other partner agencies to facilitate health-enhancing activities and improve health outcomes.

You'll also deliver services to children and families within schools and community settings.

  • First Level Registered Nurse or Midwife
  • Practice assessor/supervisor
  • 2 years post registration experience
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching skills and/or qualification
  • Qualified mentor

  • Demonstrates an understanding of leadership skills
  • Excellent communicator with a high level of interpersonal and organisational skills
  • An effective and proactive team player
  • Competent knowledge and skills in IT packages e.g Microsoft word, excel
