Job overview
The department is seeking a capable and highly motivated doctor who enjoys working in a tertiary referral service and wishes to effect change and improve care for patients within this service
The postholder will join an existing team of 11 NHS Gynaecologists, 4 NHS Gynae-oncologists and 6 University of Oxford Clinical Academics who together provide both a local Gynaecology service to the population of Oxford and a highly specialist tertiary service in Urogynaecology, reproductive medicine, endometriosis and Gynae-oncology. This post is a Trust wide position with clinical sessions at the Horton Hospital in Banbury and the John Radcliffe Hospital sites as well as joint theatre sessions at the Churchill Hospital. .
The successful applicant for this position will have the relevant experience to undertake advanced laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis and be part of the Oxford BSGE Endometriosis CaRe Centre.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust provides Gynaecology services across three sites (John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, Horton Hospital Banbury and the Churchill Hospital, Oxford). The successful applicant will work across all sites. The post holder will be expected to undertake a combination of general Gynaecology and specialist clinics. It is anticipated that the specialist clinics will be: 1) Endometriosis clinic 2) Another of their choice
The post-holder will be expected to undertake regular weekly theatre lists at the John Radcliffe hospital.
The post holder will manage in-patients at the John Radcliffe Hospital and undertake Gynaecology on-call duties of no more frequent than 1:9, and on a rotational basis will respond to GP advice and guidance as required.
Some clinics may take place outside of the acute trust and it is anticipated that over time more clinics may be located elsewhere.
The successful candidate will be expected to keep up to date with emergency Gynaecology, reviewing patients in the ‘hot clinic’ and giving advice to the specialist Early Pregnancy team when on call.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Primary medical qualification
- MBBS/MBCHB
- MRCOG/FRCOG
- CCT or equivalent (or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of application)
- ATSM or equivalent in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery for the Excision of benign disease
Desirable criteria
- Higher postgraduate-degree
- Evidence of Advanced Ultrasound training
- Evidence of Robotic training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of advanced skills in gynaecological endoscopic surgery for endometriosis
- Experience managing and treating patients with benign gynaecological conditions
- Experience managing and treating emergency Gynaecology cases.
- Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients in a tertiary setting
- Evidence of experience working within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of having worked at consultant level in a teaching hospital.
- Willingness to contribute to the medically complex TOP service
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of authorship of clinical guidelines at a local or national level.
- Relevant peer reviewed publications within the preceding 5 years
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification.
- Training in clinical management
- Experience of working within a national or international regulatory body
Communication
Essential criteria
- Good spoken and written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of ability to teach practical skills e.g. ultrasound or laparoscopy
- Postgraduate qualification in medical education
- Experience in organising national/international training
