Main duties of the job

Senior Theatre Support Worker

As a senior member of the theatre support team, you will contribute by:

  • Ensuring all areas within the suite are clean, and tidy and that adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Cleaning and tidying equipment used in theatre.
  • Preparation of theatre equipment according to theatre schedules and local policy
  • To assist in promoting and maintaining good communication between all members of the theatre team
  • Checking, connecting, preparing and providing equipment and supplies to registered theatre personnel during patients' perioperative stay.
  • To assist in maintaining a safe working environment for patients, visitors and colleagues
  • Supporting registered theatre personnel by opening packs in a sterile fashion and manoeuvring equipment as required
  • Assisting with the positioning of the conscious and unconscious patient
  • Supporting and re-assuring patients during local anaesthetic procedures
  • Completing all relevant documentation including patient notes, Theatre registers and being familiar with the EPR
  • Participate in the teaching and development of learners and less experienced staff.
  • To adhere to the theatre and trust policies.
  • To be familiar with the structure of the unit and its relationship with the organisation
  • To be familiar with the concept of teamwork, to be involved in team discussions, meetings and project developments.
  • Participation in theatre audits

Surgery, Women’s and Oncology are currently looking for driven, methodical and highly motivated Senior Theatre Support Workers to join our operating departments. This is an important role within the multi-disciplinary team and successful candidates will contribute to a safe perioperative environment working alongside our registered Theatre Practitioners.

As a senior Theatre Support Worker, you will help provide a seamless service to patients. You will have knowledge and skills to support patient care during surgery and local anaesthetic and will be expected to utilise this to support ongoing care to patients.

The role requires excellent communication skills, empathy and the ability to work under pressure. Career progression is encouraged, and a number of our Theatre support workers have subsequently progressed onto Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner apprenticeships.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Enthusiastic approach to working in the perioperative environment
  • 2 years’ experience working in the Operating Department
  • Good command of the English language and numerate
  • Good general level of education
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Experience of working with Operating Department
  • Experience of working in the Endoscopy
  • Evidence of working in a busy environment
  • An ability to deliver a high standard of care
  • Able to work with supervision
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ – any level
  • Previous experience in Health care
  • Completed Care Certification
  • Effective organisational and time management skills.
  • An ability to cope effectively under pressure and manage complex and challenging situations.
