POST OF: CONSULTANT IN OPHTHALMOLOGY (Cornea)
A part time 6 PA post as a substantive Consultant in Cornea Ophthalmology is available at the Oxford Eye Hospital. The ideal candidate must have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the specialist register. CCT fellowship in Cornea ophthalmology is essential. The 6 PAs are apportioned 5PA's for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1PA for supporting professional activity (SPA) with on-call commitment. This post is a medical post with an aspect of surgical activity built into the job plan.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Cornea to join our established team of Consultants and work in the Oxford Eye Hospital.
The Oxford Eye Hospital provides a Corneal service to the Oxfordshire Population as well as tertiary referral work from surrounding regions. The post-holder would be expected to provide medical and surgical corneal sub-specialist expertise for patients presenting with acute and chronic corneal disease and trauma. This is based in the emergency and outpatient clinics and provides surgical intervention. The post involves the management of new referral and existing patients already under the care of Ophthalmology and following cataract, glaucoma and retinal surgery and for those will ocular surface pathologies.
The Corneal service has a strong multidisciplinary interaction with all other sub-specialties within Ophthalmology, including Optometry.
A clinical trials unit is active and research opportunities are available and encouraged. Participation on the consultant on-call rota is mandatory.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC with licence to practice
- Medical degree
- FRCOphth or equivalent
- GMC Specialist Register or CCT, CESR in Opthalmology (according to the department’s requirements) within 6 months of achieving such accreditation
- Post CCT Fellowship in Cornea ophthalmology
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree relevant to ophthalmology
- Experience of leading an team including allied health professionals

- Experience with Medi soft/MediSIGHT Ophthalmology electronic patient record
- Experience with Ufonia/ AI sys tems
- Experience with patient group communication and lectures
- Experience with advice & guidance to GPs and to community optometrists
- Management training and experience
- Publications in audit or quality improvement
