Job overview

We are seeking a band 4 nurse associate to join the team in the John Radcliffe main theatres direct admissions unit. TDA is housed within the operating theatres, you will work alongside the theatre nurses, surgeons and anesthetists to ensure patients are welcomed and ready to go to theatre. 

Main duties of the job

TDA is an area where patients are admitted on the same day as their surgery. This process streamlines the workflow for surgical procedures ensuring that patients are ready for their operation with unnecessary delays. 

As part of the TDA team you will welcome patients, check their details, liaise with the anaesthetists and surgeons, carry out base line observations and assist with any other tests needed. You will  use digital documentation systems  and escalate any anomalies to the relevant team. You will use your interpersonal skills to ensure that patients feel reassured and informed.  You will need need good communication skills to ensure clinical teams and patients have the relevant information needed to ensure a smooth transition through TDA.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values and those of the OUHFT
 Work as part of a designated nursing team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual, supporting registered nurses and non registered practitioners
Be able to appropriately delegate tasks to non registered practitioners
 Carry out specific delegated health care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency.
Take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace. 
 Have the ability to deliver care independently in line with the individual’s defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the nursing associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed.
Provide, promote and where appropriate advocate for non-discriminatory, person-centered and sensitive care at all times that is high quality, compassionate and safe with a focus on promoting health and independence.
 Recognise and report any factors that may adversely impact safe and effective provision of care and know when and how to escalate any concerns when required.
 Be accountable for their own actions, working within the limitations of their role
 Take responsibility for their own learning and continued professional development
