Job overview

We are pleased to advertise a 12-month fixed term position of Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post will focus on core and general urology and will be based at OUH.

 

The appointment is on a whole-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

Main duties of the job

 

The post holder duties will be split across the Churchill Hospital and Horton General hospital. Presence will be required in other parts of the Trust including the John Radcliffe Hospital. The clinical work will be focused on the delivery of core urology. The post holder will participate in the Consultant on call rota on a 1 in 10 basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical

 

The post holder duties will be split across the Churchill Hospital and Horton General hospital. Presence will be required in other parts of the Trust including the John Radcliffe Hospital. The clinical work will be focused on the delivery of core urology. The post holder will participate in the Consultant on call rota on a 1 in 10 basis.

 

Teaching/Research

 

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be encouraged to teach clinical students and train junior doctors during clinical activities. An input into research is not expected as part of this post, but research opportunities are available within the Trust, and appointees can apply for honorary status with the Nuffield Department of Surgery.

 

 

Clinical Governance

 

The post-holder will be required to participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personal and Professional Development

 

The post-holder will be required to keep themselves fully up-to-date with Statutory and mandatory training and in their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of both Trusts.

 

The post-holder will have access to professional mentorship on appointment, and throughout their career as required, and will be supported by the Trust and the Directorate with Continuing Medical Education.

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FRCS (urol.) or equivalent CCT in Urology; or Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Urology; or within six months of achieving CCST at the time of interview.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Medical Degree

  • General training in Urology to specialist level or equivalent Ability to make decisions at consultant level
