Job overview
As part of our service we provide the following specialities for our patients;
- Our imaging department undertakes 25000 transthoracic echocardiograms a year in adult, paediatric and congenital services. In addition the team provides stress echo, bubble studies, a physiologist led valve clinic and plans to introduce a physiologist led TOE service. The department also hosts the BSE practical exam.
- The Nuclear Cardiology department performs approximately 2700 myocardial perfusion scans per year
- Cardiac Rhythm Management follows up approximately 3500 pacemakers and 2000 complex devices a year and we have a substantial and growing remote monitoring service.
- Our non-invasive service includes exercise tolerance tests, ambulatory ECG monitoring and physiologist/healthcare scientist led CPET.
- We have 5 cardiac angiography labs offering a 24hour primary PCI service for coronary intervention and also facilitate rotablation, pressure wires, IVUS and intra-aortic balloon pumps. The Structural intervention service includes TAVI, Mitraclips and PFO closures.
- As part of our Electrophysiology service we undertake approximately 800 ablations a year (400 of these being complex mapping cases such as atrial fibrillation ablations), 550 pacemaker implants and 200 Complex device implants.
- The Department incorporates a team of specialist nurse practitioners and advanced nurse practitioners which specialise both in cardiac arrhythmias and complex device patients.
Main duties of the job
Oxford University Hospitals is a world renowned centre of clinical excellence and is one the largest teaching hospitals in the UK. We became a Foundation Trust in 2015 enabling us to work more effectively in partnership with both our patients and the local community to provide high quality healthcare in a wide range of clinical specialities. We are looking for a flexible, motivated Band 6 Cardiac Physiologist to join our supportive, dynamic and friendly team working across our hospital sites in Oxford and Banbury. For the right candidate we will offer the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in several areas and welcome a self-directed career approach to your own professional progression. We also support Modernising Scientific Careers and take a range of students from Apprentice to HSST level. We are a practical assessment centre for BSE and participate in the STP OSFA assessments for the National School for Healthcare Science. As a department we have established links with the University and are actively involved in research. We regularly perform live cases as part of a national and international training programme

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As part of your development we can offer support in attaining BHRS and BSE accreditation to further your professional and career progression.
A BSc in clinical physiology or an equivalent is an essential requirement for this post and ideally the applicant should have 12 months qualification experience. Professional registration is preferred ie RCCP or AHCS.
Oxfordshire is surrounded by beautiful countryside, close to the Cotswolds and London with good transport links. Oxford, as a city, has a wide range of attractions, restaurants and nightlife.

Essential criteria
- • BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent
- • Demonstrate relevant post qualification experience
- • Demonstrates ability to support junior and senior members of staff
- • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
- • SCST

- • BHRS/BSE accreditation
- • ILS/ALS
- • Recognised teaching /assessing qualification
- • Mentoring qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Demonstrable experience in a broad range of cardiac physiological procedures, such as ECG, Exercise Tolerance Testing supervision, Echocardiography, continuous ambulatory monitoring preparation and analysis, haemodynamic monitoring/recording during cardiac angiography and electrophysiology studies, pacemaker implant and follow-up.
Desirable criteria
- • Experience with complex PCI, congenital diagnostic and interventional catheterisation procedures.
- • Experience in the implant and follow-up of implanted pacemaker systems.
- • Experience in research
