We are now looking to expand our bank of sessional GPs to help meet periods of increased demand, provide cover for annual leave, and support service continuity whenever additional medical input is needed.

Main duties of the job
About the Role
This position primarily involves providing medical cover to our community hospital wards located in Bicester, Oxford, Wallingford, and Didcot. There may also be opportunities to support teams at our other sites in Abingdon and Witney.
On any given day, you will be responsible for delivering face-to-face medical support to a maximum of two wards. In occasional circumstances, you may also be asked to offer senior clinical decision-making support to our skilled Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) at other locations.
You will be caring for patients who are:

Receiving step-down care and rehabilitation following discharge from secondary care

Admitted for step-up care from the community

Occasionally requiring palliative support
Your work will include a mix of ward-based care, participation in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and remote or telephone support where appropriate.
Individualised training and support will be provided to successful GP applicants to ensure confidence and competence in this rewarding role.

Working Arrangements & Future Opportunities
We offer flexible sessional work with both ad hoc shifts and block bookings available—typically arranged 3 to 6 months in advance, depending on the site and day of the week. Looking ahead, there may be opportunities for suitable individuals to take on substantive roles as Community Hospital GPs.
In order to be eligible for this role you will need to hold the following medical qualifications: CCT in Geriatric Medicine, or CCT in General Internal Medicine, or Completion of GP training (either JCPTGP certificate (pre 2005) or MRCGP) (2).
This role is ideal for GPs with a particular interest in the care of older adults, and offers the chance to work within a well-established, supportive team. It also provides an excellent opportunity for GPs with portfolio careers who are seeking additional clinical sessions in a rewarding and collaborative environment.

- Full GMC registration with licence to practice

Experience
Essential criteria
- Active NHS clinical experience in:- General (or Community) & Acute Geriatric Medicine; OR General Medicine OR General Practice with demonstrable experience in working with older people
Desirable criteria
- • Subspecialty experience of working at the Interface between general medicine and primary care
