Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic Band 2 Ward Clerk to work in our Day Surgery & Endoscopy Unit at Breconshire War Memorial Hospital. The Ward Clerk role is to act as a receptionist and first line contact for patients, relatives and visitors to the department. They will perform clerical and general office duties and will be responsible for the management of case notes for our elective day surgery and endoscopy patients.

Excellent communication skills are required and where we receive a high volume of applications for a post, we may bring the closing date forward. You are therefore advised to submit your completed application as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Main duties of the job

Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Day Surgery and Endoscopy Unit, acting as the first point of contact  for patients, visitors, and contractors. 

Key responsibilities include managing Reception duties, preparing and maintaining accurate patient records, retrieving and filing notes, handling telephone and face-to-face enquiries, and ensuring confidentiality in line with Powys Teaching Health Board policies and procedures.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Education to GCSE level
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) to perform administrative tasks accurately and efficiently
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with the Health Board WPAS System

Experience

  • Previous clerical/office experience

  • Experience of working in a Day Surgery / Endoscopy environment or experience of working within a hospital environment
