Job overview
This role supports the Finance Business Partner in providing sound Financial Management services to meet the requirements of financial reporting and control within a specific service area.
To contribute to the preparation of the Health Board’s annual budget setting, monthly finance internal reporting and contribute to the production of the monthly financial monitoring returns to WG.
To work unsupervised at a senior level and to use your own initiative to make decisions with only occasional reference to his/her line manager.
Take the lead role in the maintenance and development of sound financial
management systems and to have specialist knowledge of all aspects of
financial management within the NHS regime.
To provide strategic financial and business case advice and to analyse and interpret highly complex financial management information to provide policy direction for the Health Board within areas of expertise.
Develop plans and persuasively communicate complex financial information.
As a senior member of the Finance team the post-holder will be expected to take the lead in providing financial management support to a significant service area.
Manage staff within the Management Accounts section.
Within agreed areas of accountability, responsible for financial reporting and the provision of advice to others, for revenue budgets and the financial implications of development proposals.
Act as the liaison accountant with one or more service areas within the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
Managing the Management Accountancy team for specific service area to support the financial elements of the Health Board plans. To ensure that the staff, systems and procedures provide an effective and efficient support structure operating with honesty, integrity and professionalism.
Specific areas include Budgertary control, Financial Management, Financial Planning, Reporting, Staff management.

- Ability to convey complex analytical financial information to all stakeholders
- Ability to provide financial advice and training on the budget plan and budgetary control techniques to non-finance staff.
Aptitude & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to challenge or negotiate with external bodies on matters which could influence the funding position of the Health Board
- Excellent IT skills including data analysis
- Ability to motivate others and use influencing skills.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to speak Welsh
