Job overview
We are looking for a part- time Senior Public Health Practitioner to lead our Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools Team. It is a key role in helping to improve the health and wellbeing in school settings, supporting them on their journey implementing the National Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools Scheme and the Whole School Approach to Mental and Emotional Wellbeing (WSAEMWB). Working closely with Powys County Council and education colleagues, you will find a supportive, positive environment where your contribution can make a real difference.
The post holder will contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of a range of public health programmes that promote health and wellbeing for school age children and their communities, in line with agreed local and national strategies. The post holder will take a lead role on specific projects or programmes within the team’s workplan. In particular, they will lead on the implementation of the WSAEMWB and the National Standards for Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools across all schools in Powys.
There will be close working with colleagues in the Public Health Team and other Health Board teams such as Dietetics and Flying Start, as well as developing and maintaining effective relationships with external partner organisations and agencies as appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Masters or equivalent knowledge in Public Health / Health Promotion or allied discipline.
- Evidence of continuing professional/personal development.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in public health/health promotion.
- Experience of working with communities.
- Experience of working across a Number of organisations/sectors and/or with a number of programmes, including development, managing and evaluation of significant elements of work.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of public health as it applies to children and young people.
- Experience of working with schools and/or the education sector

Essential criteria
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to work successfully with diverse professional partners, and manage potentially conflicting perspectives.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
