A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to be appointed as a Band 7 Campaigns & Engagement Manager, fixed term/ secondment for 18 months.   

The post holder will lead on Campaigns & Engagement to deliver insight-led and strategically aligned campaigns and public engagement activities. They will have a proven track record of strategic communications and significant stakeholder engagement experience at a regional, national and local level in order to raise awareness of health and care research in Wales, promote Welsh research nationally and internationally, and appeal to new audiences to get involved in research.  

The post holder will require excellent communication skills, have a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the Service, be motivated, ready for the next challenge and enjoy working as part of a very busy team.

Main duties of the job

In this leadership role, the duties will include:

1.          Develop and deliver effective campaign and public engagement strategies for Health and Care Research Wales and the Support & Delivery Centre, serving Welsh Government’s policy objectives. 

2.          Support the Senior Communications and Engagement Manager and Senior Public Involvement Manager in setting the direction for campaign development and managing the budget for campaigns and engagement. 

3.          Lead the project management of events, conferences, workshops and other engagement activities that reach out to a wide range of stakeholders. 

4.          Develop and implement creative, integrated campaigns working with the wider Communications, Engagement and Involvement team and the wider research Infrastructure. 

5.          Develop strong operational links with counterparts in peer organisations, cultural organisations and the third sector in developing and delivering innovative campaigns, engagement activities and revenue streams to support initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to postgraduate level in a PR, communications marketing or other relevant field, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Specialist knowledge and significant practical application equivalent to Masters level of communications, online engagement, event management and marketing techniques
  • Demonstrable expert knowledge of best practice in stakeholder engagement and leadership skills in maximising brand effectiveness
  • A good understanding of design techniques, experienced in sourcing design and print and providing detailed briefs
  • Demonstrable understanding and application of campaign development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Demonstrable understanding of insight and evaluation methods and their use in developing communications and engagement outputs
  • Experience of leading teams and working collaboratively to get results
  • Experience of PR / Communications in a management role
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

  • Extensive experience of public facing communications and engagement
  • Significant project management experience in a relevant setting
  • Experience of working in a leadership role in a relevant setting, including experience in managing teams and resources
  • Significant experience of working collaboratively to achieve a common goal
  • Significant experience of developing, implementing and evaluating campaigns
  • Experience of managing, delivering or commissioning audience insight projects, evaluation and reporting outputs
  • Use of desktop publishing and website software to develop media releases, publications
