A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to be appointed as the Head of Commercial Research Delivery Wales (CRDW) (Band 8d).
This is a fixed term role available until end March 2029 due to funding.
The Head of Commercial Research Delivery Wales (CRDW) is a high-profile national role provides visible, dynamic and effective senior leadership, across organisational boundaries and without conventional management hierarchies, providing leadership on the full range of issues associated with the Commercial Research Delivery Wales Programme.
The post holder will require excellent communication skills, have a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the Service, be motivated, ready for the next challenge and enjoy working as part of a very busy team.

Main duties of the job
Lead operational implementation of VPAG Investment Programme in Wales providing expert programme management to ensure successful delivery of agreed plans across NHS Wales and financial and delivery risks are managed/mitigated
Direct lead and oversee the Wales Commercial Research Delivery Centre, bringing together the clinical leads within the Wales CRDC to provide a highest quality commercial research delivery service as part of the UK CRDC Network
Lead on key activities in the Wales industry engagement plan for research delivery meeting with commercial partners to forge new strategic relationships and partnerships, working with the Head of Communications for Research Delivery and Industry Wales Specialty Leads and Health and Care Research Wales National Clinical Lead for Cancer Research
Oversee Health and Care Research Wales commercial research Strategic Partnerships ensuring successful delivery of the agreed plans, milestones and financial plans
Oversee of commercial research delivery in Wales monitoring study set up, compliance with UK agreed process relating to National Contract Value Review (NCVR), recruitment to time and target, anticipating and responsive to performance issues as they arise across NHS Wales
Responsible for delivery of specific strategic actions as part of the Welsh Government Tackling Cancer through Research Programme, working closely with the Health and Care Research Wales National Clinical Lead for Cancer Research

Essential criteria
- Educated to PhD level in a relevant subject or equivalent work experience
- Research and/or Management qualification or equivalent experience
- Specialist knowledge of commercial research delivery including experience
- Programme management qualification or equivalent experience
- Significant understanding of national research policy and current issues in NHS Wales
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven track record and significant experience of leading programmes in a health context
- Highly developed knowledge of commercial research delivery, and an understanding of facilitators and barriers to developing commercial research in Wales
- Significant experience of developing relationships and communicating / working across boundaries and with industry partners and other external agencies
- Significant experience of stakeholder engagement
- Experience of research activities to produce high quality briefings and reports
- Experience of making strategic connections, identifying opportunities and risks, and to explore innovative ways of working
- Experience of strategic planning and monitoring at a regional/national level, including interaction with a variety of organisations
- Experience of working at a managerial level including management of staff, recruitment & selection, capability, disciplinary, mentoring and governance
- Knowledge and experience of latest legislation in research management and governance and GCP; NHS Structures and organisation
