Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a Best Interests Assessor (BIA) to be part of a developing team. We are looking for a BIA who can confidently support the MCA/DoLS Senior Practitioner, undertake best interest assessments for DoLS on behalf of the Health Board and promote pathways for DoLS within the Managing Authority and Supervisory Body.
Main duties of the job
Undertake the role of Best Interest Assessor and complete best interests and all supporting assessments within statutory timescales. You will communicate with the relevant person, their family or other relevant interested persons to assist with the completion of the Best Interest Assessment or other relevant interested persons who may wish to raise a complaint, challenge a decision or process.
The post holder will manage challenging and sensitive issues with clarity and professionalism and escalate unresolved concerns to the MCA and DoLS Senior Practitioner.
The post holder will contribute to the development of safeguarding policies and ensure implementation in the clinical area. As part of the DOLs assessment the post holder would check compliance with specific clinical policies, for example, Locked Door Policy, Covert Medication Administration, and the use of Bedsides.

Essential criteria
- Professional Registration
- Specialist professional knowledge to degree level or equivalent with clear understanding of DoLS & MCA
- Applied knowledge of MCA, DoLS and related Codes of Practice
- Demonstrate significant experience of arranging and undertaking assessments
Desirable criteria
- Accredited BIA qualification/willingess and ability to completed accredited BIA training
English
Essential criteria
- Clear knowledge and specialist knowledge of DoLS and MCA
- Evidence of multi agency working
- Advanced decision making abilities
- Formulate typed reports with well developed analytical and judgement skills to communicate complex information
Desirable criteria
- Teaching/training experience
- Welsh language skills
- Experience of how the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act interface
