This is an exciting training opportunity designed to give the trainee the experience and knowledge to complete a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard - Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) qualification. It is a cross sector apprenticeship role between our Community Hospitals, a Community Pharmacy, and possibly another service within SCHT, allowing you to improve patient care while developing your knowledge and skills and behaviours required to become a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). 

This role will act as a steppingstone to a wider career in Pharmacy as a registered Pharmacy Technician. The apprentice will be supported throughout training and work experience, and with support, will learn to complete a range of tasks within timescales to a competent standard.

This is a fixed term post of 2 years for the period of training only. The post holder will need to demonstrate commitment to the two-year training program.

Main duties of the job

You must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade A* - C (new grades 9 - 4) or equivalent, these must include: English, Maths and Science.

Please note that English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is not an equivalent to GCSE English Grade C/Level 4 or above and does not meet the entry requirements.

During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to undertake the different duties of a Pharmacy Technician, gaining experience in cross-sectors such as Community Hospital working on the wards, attending MDT and speaking with patients, Community Pharmacy placement where you will undertake your dispensing and other services within our Trust.

You must be able to work accurately, communicate effectively and be confident to move between teams and sites regularly. An interest in the pharmacy profession is key, for example if you currently work in a pharmacy or hospital pharmacy this would be beneficial but not essential.

Essential criteria
  • GCSE's: Maths, English Language and Science (Grades 4-9 or A*-C)
  • Able to undertake and successfully complete the Pharmacy Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship (BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians Qualification) and to meet all organisational commitments associated with the course.
  • Ability to learn simultaneously – undertake projects/assignments in own time
