An opportunity has arisen within The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for a Principal Physiotherapist in pain management in the newly developing world class pain service at one of the leading specialist hospitals in the United Kingdom. The Pain Management Service will be integral to patient recovery, functioning as a key element of perioperative care, non-surgical treatment pathways, and complex rehabilitation.
We are seeking an enthusiastic clinician with experience in leadership, service innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration, who is committed to high-quality care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will plan, lead and be responsible for the delivery and development of practice in the specialist area. They will fulfil the 4 pillars of advanced clinical practice: Clinical leadership, Expert clinical practice, Research/Audit activity, Education. This is a professional clinical and team lead role the focus being clinical activity and the balance being clinical leadership, research, audit, and education.
Supporting the development of RJAH clinical pain service across the community and system as required. Developing specialist programmes for physiotherapy case load in the pain service.
To work as an autonomous, advanced practitioner, with an extended scope of practice to work with the team to deliver care within the relevant specialism; providing a high standard of specialist assessment and treatment of patients.
To ensure all clinical practice is based on current research /evidence, developing and undertaking audit and research as appropriate. To initiate, lead and develop regular research, audit, evaluation and implementation of evidence based practice and support other RJAH staff with research projects.
Working at a high clinical level within a specialist service, the post holder will be expected to act as a source of clinical expertise and knowledge to other professionals within the organisation.
To report on findings and advise on recommended management across the whole patient pathway, which includes prevention, enablement and resettlement.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. To use highly specialist knowledge and experience of the application of the theoretical basis of Physiotherapy, around the value and meaning of the patient achieving their maximum level of independence and its Health and Well-being benefits.
2. To be able to deliver interventions to a high level of specialist expertise both individually and in a group work setting.
3. To undertake a significant clinical caseload to an advanced professional standard, using highly developed specialist knowledge and expertise, this being underpinned by advanced theoretical knowledge and clinical experience
4. The postholder will be highly skilled to work with individuals with learning needs, physical and mental health conditions and additionally will have a high level of experience and clinical reasoning with social situational assessments and lifestyle choices to enable a holistic assessment of needs. The post holder will support the identification of the primary need and focus for intervention for the patient particularly where there are co-morbid conditions/long term conditions needing condition management strategies.
5. Interventions will support the patient to manage their own health and wellbeing through promoting health/healthy lifestyle choices and coping/self management skills through an educational and skill based approach.
6. The interventions will promote recovery, enablement and maximum level of independence during and following illness, reducing the limiting factors of disability and chronic conditions.
7. Through own caseload and sharing specialist skills within the MDT, supporting patients to manage their condition, recover/ improve their level of functioning through, health promotion, early interventions, condition and self management and supporting the patient to manage their condition
8. To lead and develop the expertise of designated staff through providing clinical supervision and identifying staff development plans.
9. To support the clinical design and delivery of an advanced practitioner service through clinical leadership within the Community Complex Condition.
10. Work in partnership with patients, other health and social care colleagues and services internal and external to community complex conditions service, to achieve the optimum health outcome for clients.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Master level education or equivalent; e.g. Advanced Clinical Practice.
- • Degree or recognised equivalent in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
- • Practice placement educator qualification Management/Clinical leadership training
- • Non-medical prescribing
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Significant post graduate clinical experience in the NHS.
- • Extensive experience in pain management
- • Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating groupwork.

Essential criteria
- Advanced Clinical reasoning skills. Ability to demonstrate advanced analytical and problem solving and able to deliver assessments and interventions within physical, psychological, social and learning needs in physiotherapy scope of practice
- Ability to demonstrate professionality in a confident, assertive manner, using negotiating/influencing skills whilst maintaining excellent working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Knowledge of clinical governance and Health and Safety risk awareness
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Specialist training and knowledge underpinned by theory and experience in the field of pain
- In depth understanding of psycho-social interventions, normal development, the social determinants of health and the social disability model in relation to complex pain and physiotherapy
- Able to utilise the principles of positive risk taking in clinical practice.
