Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Breast

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Breast Unit for two Advanced Nurse Practitioners to join an established team of Breast nurses and consultants working across various hospital and GP sites in Shropshire. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will have key working relationships will all members of the nursing, medical and multidisciplinary and department management teams.
The successful candidate will work in the Breast Diagnostic clinics as an autonomous practitioner. Also to provide support to patients within the Open Access Follow up service supporting patients with a wide range of needs such as aspects relating to their breast surveillance and managing their treatment pathways.

- You will be an excellent practitioner, acting within your professional boundaries and aligned to the RCN standards of advanced practice (RCN, 2018)

- You will have the skills to independently undertake history taking, breast assessment, diagnosis, treatment assessments and evaluation of care.
- You will use your knowledge and skills to provide expert, efficient and safe patient care.
- You will demonstrate expert knowledge and understanding of breast cancer and all treatment modalities, benign breast diseases and the importance of effective intervention to promote supported self-management throughout long term follow up.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.
Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, the Trust’s catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east.
The main towns include: Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch (in Shropshire); Newport, Telford and Wellington (in Telford & Wrekin); and Newtown and Welshpool (in Powys) – all beautiful and unique.
The Breast teams main service locations are The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury. We also provide outreach clinics at GP practices in Telford and Pontesbury with an aim to expand this to include locations in Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Whitchurch.

Qualifications

- Registered nurse or registered AHP with appropriate qualification
- Evidence of extensive professional development / clinical knowledge supplemented by specialist clinical training and CPD
- Ability and work / study at Masters level and complete associated academic study.
- Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (or working towards)
- Patient Assessment module at advanced practice level (or working towards)
- Minor injury / illness qualification

- ENB 998 or equivalent
- ALS (or ability to achieve)
Experience & Knowledge

- Demonstrates specialist expertise and experience of working at an advanced level with patients presenting with undifferentiated illness and injury
- Advanced physical examination skills
- Substantial experience of working within an acute hospital environment or primary care setting
- In depth knowledge of contemporary clinical issues, legislation relating to clinical practice and relevant standards and codes.
- Understanding the principles and practice of clinical governance.
