Trainee Clinical Endoscopist /Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Job overview
Due to expansion of our service, we are offering an exciting opportunity for two Trainee Clinical Endoscopists / Advanced Nurse Practitioners to join our expanding Endoscopy Team.
This is a trainee Band 7 post where there is an opportunity for a specialist Clinical Endoscopist (CE) to undertake Masters level training and competency based assessment to enable them to function as a Band 7 Clinical Endoscopist.
The expectation is that the successful candidate will complete academic specialist GI modules plus in house training before being signed off as competent and moving from the Band 7 role to a Band 8a role. There is also an expectation that the individual will enrol on and complete a Masters degree in advanced nursing practice, including non-medical prescribing.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic practitioner to join our fantastic Clinical Endoscopist Team. Upon training you will work autonomously to perform upper and lower procedures to include colonoscopy, gastroscopy, TNE, capsule endoscopy, and PEG related procedures. Ultimately you will also run practitioner led clinics.
The post holder will be a role model for professional practice, exercising accountability and providing support and leadership within the Endoscopy Team. You will work closely with the consultant and nursing teams to provide high standards of patient care and achieve national targets to meet service needs and ensure JAG accreditation is maintained.
Once competent, the post holder will be expected to be a JAG accredited trainer and to participate in the delivery of formal JAG courses, delivered at The Royal Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Trust.

We have two endoscopy units with a total of nine procedure rooms. The post holder will be expected to work at both sites, seven-day working will be required.

Professional/Technical Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RGN
- Evidence of continuing profession development
- Degree qualification with evidence of further academic study
Desirable criteria
- JAG accredited endoscopist upper and lower GI
- Advanced physical assessment
- Nurse / AHP Independent Prescriber
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Sufficient post registration experience in Endoscopy/Gastroenterology or advanced practice
- High level advanced clinical skills and knowledge
- Experience in teaching and training of staff
- Involvement in nursing audit and research
- An awareness and understanding of national and local issues relevant to speciality
- Up to date knowledge and understanding of nursing policy and practice relevant to speciality
Skills and Ability
Essential criteria
- Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting with and outside the Trust
- Evidence of excellent patient documentation and record keeping skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with professional credibility
- Time management skills with an ability to act on own initiative and be both self-directed and motivated in the work environment
- Positive attitude to change with a proven ability to assist in the implementation of change and practice development
Desirable criteria
- Experience performing diagnostic endoscopic procedures
- Evidence of advanced communication skills including verbal, non=verbal and written. This will include evidence breaking bad news
- Evidence of good IT skills including relevant NHS systems/JETS/NED and endoscopy reporting systems
