Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring Registered Nurse.

We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, registered nurse to join and help lead our teams on Ward 9 Frailty at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and Ward 28 Frailty at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Frailty Units and co-associated Frailty Units  as a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse.

The successful candidate should have proven leadership skills and be driven and enthusiastic and be dedicated to ensuring that good quality care is delivered to all our patients.

Main duties of the job

  • To function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area. To deliver direct patient care whilst, co-ordinating and supporting other team members.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of clinical activities during their span of duty.  
  • To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group. 
  • To deputise for the ward/ department  manager in his / her absence, driving forward evidence based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area. 
  • To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

The Wards specialise in assessing and treating emergency medical frail elderly patients who are admitted to hospital via their GP or are referred from A&E. The wards specialise in the care of older patients who typically have multiple medical conditions and often require specialist support at home or in care homes. Ward 9 is a 22 bedded ward and Ward 28 is a 38 bedded ward, both wards have a dedicated assessment area for the older adult. We have medical teams led by a team of consultants specialising in the care of the older adult. 

The Ward teams consist of a Ward Manager, Ward Sisters and a team of Registered Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants, Ward Clerk and Housekeeper who are passionate about the speciality and place the needs of the patients first.
