The post holder will be responsible for the creation and management of a multi-year capital replacement programme for medical equipment. This includes facilitating the process of acquisition and standardisation; replacement planning and expenditure forecasting; ensuring compliance with governance, good practice and standards; and data analysis and reporting.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the Trust’s actions to manage the life cycle of Medical Technology.  Through updating Medical equipment records in the Trust equipment database recording acquisition and disposal information and liaising with the procurement and finance department as required.

  • Analyse the performance of key items of medical equipment, in terms of reliability, cost of ownership and other key performance indicators to inform the prioritisations of replacement programme and maximise impact in terms of cost of ownership and reliability.

  • Liaise with suppliers, clinical end users and budget holders/local managers with the aim of selecting the device that best meets the clinical need as well as satisfying budgetary allocations.  Adhering to Trust standing financial instructions during the selection process.

 

 

Working for our organisation

The Medical Engineering Department provide medical device support for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust and have main workshops based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. The department also provides service to external organisations, such as Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust and other private organisations.

Qualification/Education

Essential criteria
  • Educated to post graduate degree level or equivalent experience
  • Recognised post graduate management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Highly specialist knowledge acquired through manufacturers' training, relevant practical experience and theoretical knowledge

Experience

Essential criteria
  • In depth knowledge of medical device management and legislation
  • Experience of managing projects & achieving successful outcomes
  • Ability to interpret new guidance and legislation and disseminate key facts.
  • Proven track record of change management
  • Proven track record of working with different staff groups
  • Experienced in undertaking risk assessments on medical devices
  • Experienced in system improvement methodologies
  • Experience of Capital planning and budget setting and control

Specific Skills/Knowledge & Competency

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication skills required to engage a range of stakeholders in service development and change issues
  • Developed analytical and problem solving skills required for the assessment of complex facts and formulation of improvement strategies
  • Extensive practical experience of Medical Engineering practices including commissioning,PPM,servicing, inspection, repair, calibration, quality control, safety and procurement
  • Knowledge of the use of a quality management system.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and legislation
