Job overview
The Deputy Divisional Director of Operations helps lead the Medicine and Emergency Care Division, with a main focus on urgent and emergency care.
· They make sure services run safely every day, meet key targets, and give patients the best possible care.
· They support teams across the hospitals, helping them plan, solve problems, and improve how services work.
· They help manage budgets, staff, and resources to make sure the Division stays efficient and delivers good value.
· They work closely with senior leaders and partners across the NHS to improve patient pathways and plan for the future.
· They also step in for the Divisional Director of Operations when needed and help lead important decisions for the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as Deputy Divisional Director of Operations (DDDO) for Medicine and Emergency Care (MEC), with the primary portfolio of Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) and form part of the MEC leadership team. On behalf of the Divisional Director of Operations (DDO) for MEC, the postholder is responsible for coordinating and prioritising the effective and efficient delivery of highly complex UEC services, including new projects and the management of operational business on a day-to-day basis, meeting all necessary standards of safety, quality, and patient access within agreed resources and budget. This will include responsibility for the achievement of the relevant key performance standards and access targets, contractual obligations including all regulatory standards.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to Master’s degree level or equivalent relevant senior management experience
- Evidence of highly developed professional management development within relevant field of practice
- Achieving performance and quality standards
- Senior operational management in acute/complex services
- UEC pathways; Workforce planning; Financial governance; Risk
Desirable criteria
- Leadership/management qualification;
- Improvement/change management training
- Experience representing organisation at system level;
- Major incident planning experience
- Knowledge of Integrated Care System, cross‑organisational working
Experience & Behaviours
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates SaTH values
- Significant experience of working at a senior management or senior professional level (equivalent to Postgraduate Diploma) in the acute healthcare sector
- Experience of leading the implementation of service improvement including complex change management programmes
- Evidence of effective management of a complex and diverse workforce
- Evidence of successful management of achieving service targets in line with budgets
Desirable criteria
- Able to facilitate workshops, meetings and engagement sessions
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Successful experience of leadership at a senior managerial level in operational and/or financial and strategic management, including exposure to Board.
- Presents complex and detailed data sets to explain key information that effectively communicates performance and assurance information to a range of stakeholders, including Trust board
- Ability to demonstrate influencing/negotiating skills to a range of staff groups/professions to deliver objectives and targets
- Specialist knowledge, skills and experience in workforce development and innovation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current practice and health policy requirements
- Ability to analyse complex/ conflicting information in order to resolve issues eg budgetary control v risk

- Demonstrable experience gained in a healthcare environment
