Ultrasound Assistant

An exciting opportunity has become available to recruit Assistants to work within the Ultrasound Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. We are looking for people who are caring and compassionate and who have strong communication and observation skills to deliver excellent patient-focused care in a challenging environment. Consideration will be given to applicants for both full-time and part-time hours.

The post involves supporting our Sonographers and Radiologists in providing quality patient care in Ultrasound.

You must have good communication skills and be able to work well as part of a team. You must be flexible in your approach as you will be required to work hours between 8am-8pm across 7 days a week. For this role, you will be required to assist with the movement of patients around the examination rooms, to use the Radiology Information System (CRIS), ensure equipment is used correctly and any faults reported and to liaise with a wide range of staff, including those from other departments. Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

• Care for patients, carers, visitors, and relatives during their visit to the Department.
• To act as chaperone in line with Trust policy.
• To help with the movement of patients in the examination rooms
• Assist Radiologists during biopsy and aspiration procedures, including the removal of cannulas and 
butterfly needles.
• Help prepare sterile examination trolleys.
• Care for patients after procedures, monitor their progress and report back to the supervising 
Radiologist.
• To use the Radiology information system (CRIS) to record the patients Radiology episode.
• To comply with the Trusts policies
• To maintain associated records, both paper and electronic
• To ensure equipment is used correctly and any faults or concerns are reported to senior staff. 
• To liaise with a wide range of staff caring for the patient- including medical staff, ward staff, staff from 
other departments
• To participate in the departments out of hour’s service.
• To assist with audit projects as required.
• To dispose of any clinical sharps bins and clinical waste to the appropriate areas in line with trust 
policy.
• To be responsible for complying with Health & Safety policy, agreed policies and procedures of the 
Radiology Department, the local rules under IRMER (ionising radiation law) and the agreed policies 
and procedures of the Trust.
