Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Housekeepers on a full time and/or part time basis to work on the Surgical Assessment Unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The ward is equipped to care for 38 inpatients and a very busy Surgical Assessment Area.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working housekeeper who will work as an integral part of the team ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment at all times.
You will need excellent interpersonal skills, as you will be liaising with and helping patients throughout the working day. You will also be required to communicate with all levels of staff both face to face and over the phone.
The post holder will be required to maintain stock levels and participate in the ordering of stock. You will also be required to maintain a high level of cleanliness within the ward.
Applicants with previous experience in a health care setting are desirable, however you will need to demonstrate commitment to developing yourself to support the nursing team in caring for patients and ensuring the patient experience is positive.
Main duties of the job
- To assist in the smooth running of the ward by promoting a clean and healthy environment.
- To be responsible for ensuring adequate stocks of consumables are maintained to meet service requirements and that all equipment within the department is clean and in good working order.
- To assist in the transfer of patients and equipment.

Essential criteria
- Worked to an educational standard that demonstrates an understanding of literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria
- GCSEs Maths and English at grades 9-1 or equivalent qualifications or experience
Knowledge and skills

- To have a basic knowledge of a hospital environment and infection control
- Knowledge of Oracle ordering system
